Hi All:
I fear that crystallography fraud is really only the tip of the iceberg.
Here's an anecdote from my own research. In 1997, my colleague and I
published a paper in Macromolecules concerning low-valent metal
reductive coupling as a means of smoke suppression in PVC. Then in 2003,
we happened to find a paper via SciFinder in a Chinese language
journal (Polymeric Materials Science and Engineering Journal) that
appeared to describe the very same findings. We obtained a copy. I
can't read Chinese, but I certainly recognized the exact graphics and
their English legends(!) that I created for the Macromolecules paper.
Pretty galling!
